Song Samples: Sweet Hangover «

Singh - Singh - Datta Jayashree Singh, Gyan Singh and Amit Datta are a team of songwriter/musicians from Calcutta. Each of them started their musical careers primarily as musicians. Jayashree started singing semi-professionally in 1976 and entered into a full-time career in music in 1977 with her first band, Sugarfoot, which featured Gyan on guitars. The music Sugarfoot played was eclectic ranging from the rock of Steely Dan to the pop of the Bee Gees, from the funk of Earth, Wind and Fire to the folk of Steelye Span. This band played the length and breadth of the country upto 1980. At this point Gyan and Jayashree relocated to New Delhi where the played in the nightclubs of 5-star hotels, further strengthening their musical skills and increasing hugely the kind of influences that were to eventually tell in their songwriting. Meanwhile Amit had begun his serious study of the guitar, and had started playing in a blues band, also in Calcutta. Gyan and Jayashree met Amit in 1982 when they had moved back to Calcutta: the musical bond was instant and insistent. The three started playing together in various Top 40 bands and rock bands and finally decided to take a break from gigging in the mid-90s to start writing music of their own after being on the road together for more than 10 years. The songs seemed to just pour out once they started. Of course, their songwriting skills were in a stage of infancy, but they kept writing and learning and writing some more and learning some more! To keep the money flowing, they compose for adverts. At this point, they and their band, Skinny Alley, are awaiting a major
label release of their album, entitled "Escape the Roar". The
three continue to write new material all the time, both for Skinny Alley
to play, as well as songs, which they hope, may be picked by international
artists who are looking for new material. The songs, like their influences,
span many genres and they write pop songs and dance-floor tracks, alternative
rock songs and hard rock songs! They also perform regularly with Skinny
Alley and hugely enjoy their dual roles as songwriters and performing
musicians. |
