Bhargav
Mistry
Bhargav Mistry, a graduate in Industrial Design from the prestigious
National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad (India), received his initial
training in Hindustani classical vocal music from Madhuriben Khare from
1977 onwards. Since his passion was for sarod*, he learnt under Late Shri
Sashikant Gundani, who introduced the instrument and taught him the basics
in the early 1980s.
Later in 1991, he found a guru in Ustad Amjad Ali Khan from whom he gets
inspirations and enrichment in this art till this date.
He has given numerous performances and lecture demonstrations over the
years across the country and abroad. These have matured his playing, for
which he was awarded Gold Medal for Sarod from Surnandan Bharati, Calcutta.
His first musical compositions were for a ballet based on a play by Kalidasa.
Recently he created fusion music with Korean groups while on tour in Korea.
His recent compositions, based on Adi Shankaracharya's mystical verses,
in duet with classical vocal artiste Aparna Panshikar, are deeply moving
and unique insofar as Aparna's chanting is interwoven with sarod notes
against a deft background of synthesizer. The sarod has a sound that is
deep, rich and contemplative. When in tune with a clear and vibrant voice
the total effect is transcendental. |
